Thank you to our first marathon runner!

This September Rob Berridge ran the Windsor Half Marathon and raised over £700 for Caudwell LymeCo. He became the very first of a growing number of fundraisers who are volunteering to run marathons in aid of Lyme disease research.

The money Rob raised will be spent on desperately needed research into Lyme disease. Lyme has been spreading at 14% a year for the last 20 years in Europe, and is one of the most under-researched illnesses in the western world. It can cause paralysis, serious memory loss, damaged eyesight and heart disease, but we still don’t know how to cure everyone or even how best to diagnose the infection.

Having suffered from Lyme disease himself, Rob knows only too well the suffering that the disease can cause. As one of the luckier people who recovered without too severe lasting symptoms, Rob was determined to take advantage of his restored health to help others less fortunate.

Rob told us just after the race, “I finished the half marathon in 2 hours, 18 minutes. A little money is still coming in but we are well over £700.”

When asked how he felt, Rob told us, “I’m really pleased but quite sore! Thanks to all of you for the support!”

Everyone at Caudwell LymeCo thanks Rob for the huge effort and fantastic result he achieved.
